Frequently asked questions:

What are the age requirements?

We will only accept students under the age of 8 WITH a parent - i.e. you must train with your child. We strongly discourage attempting to enroll small children in our program - we are a very serious, very strict, very adult setting - there are countless commercial schools who would be happy to take your child - and your money.

I have a belt in Taekwondo -do I need to retest or start over?

The short answer is no. All Kukkiwon rank is unquestionably accepted. Color belts may retain their rank, however, you may not test or advance in rank until you know all the official poomse (forms) required for the rank you hold and are testing for.

I am not a member of the DAC, can I still join classes?

Yes. While joining The Denver Athletic Club is a major financial commitment, we do encourage you to do so, but you may enjoy the use of the facilities on class nights. Remember you are a guest in the facility so conduct yourself accordingly.

How often do I need to train?

You need to commit to training two nights a week in a formal class setting, and also do at least 3 other practice and training sessions each week. This can include stretching and cardio work, practicing on a heavy bag, doing kicks and forms. Formal class times are only a portion of what you need to do to advance your skills.

Are you a traditional school? A sport school? A fighting school?

The short story is we are a fighting school, but not a tournament school. We work aggressively on producing the highest caliber of technique with a primary focus on not just sparring but application. This includes Hapkido training defending against modern-day weapons (gun, stick, knife), and in the truest tradition hold each other to the highest possible standards of performance, intensity, and ethics.
